We are a manufacturing partner—not a commodity cutting shop—focused on engineering support, process capability clarity, and prototype-to-production continuity.
Why Choose Stainless Steel for Sheet Metal Parts
Stainless steel is a best-fit material for many OEM enclosures and assemblies requiring:
Material Advantages
- Corrosion resistance and cleanability (electronics, medical/lab, food-adjacent equipment)
- Strength and stiffness for frames, brackets, and bases
- Consistent cosmetics with brushed or matte finishes
- Heat and chemical resistance in industrial environments
Typical Parts
- Enclosures and cabinets
- Chassis and panels
- Brackets and mounting plates
- Frames, machine bases, and guards
- Welded subassemblies with hardware and functional features
Stainless Steel Grades and Range We Fabricate
- SUS304 — most common, excellent formability and corrosion resistance
- SUS316 — enhanced corrosion resistance for harsher environments
- SUS430 — ferritic, cost-effective, good formability for non-critical corrosion exposure
Thickness and Size
- Typical sheet range: 0.5–12 mm
- Fiber laser cutting: stainless steel up to 20 mm
- Sheet size capacity: up to 2000 × 4000 mm
- Press brake forming: up to 230T / 3000 mm
We will confirm manufacturability, bend sequences, and handling strategies for larger panels and long bends during DFM.
Stainless Steel Fabrication Capabilities
Cutting and Forming
- Fiber laser cutting for precise profiles and edges
- CNC punching for louvers, countersinks, and formed features
- Seven CNC press brakes for consistent bends and complex sequences
Joining and Hardware
- TIG, MIG/MAG, laser, and spot welding for stainless
- PEM hardware insertion and riveting
- Tapping M2–M12
Finishing and Assembly
- Deburring, edge breaking, grinding, brushing, basic polishing
- Assembly and kitting
- Surface finishing via qualified partners: passivation, electropolishing, sandblasting, plating, anodizing (for mixed-material assemblies), powder coating, screen printing, and laser marking
Note: Partner finishes are managed by Rapidsheetfab but are not in-house processes.
Tolerances, Quality, and Documentation
Typical Drawing-Dependent Capabilities
- Laser cutting: ±0.10 mm
- Holes: ±0.10–0.20 mm
- Bending: ±0.20–0.30 mm
Quality System and Inspection
- ISO 9001:2015 QMS
- IQC, FAI, IPQC, FQC, OQC process flow
- Inspection resources: CMM, 2.5D vision systems, height gauges, and standard tools
Documentation on Request
- First Article Inspection (FAI)
- Dimensional inspection reports
- Material certificates and heat lots
- RoHS/REACH compliance
- Coating/finish reports and cosmetic standards
We will align critical-to-quality (CTQ) dimensions, measurement methods, and sampling plans during RFQ/DFM to ensure consistent results.
DFM Guidance for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal
Design for stainless steel is about balancing manufacturability, cost, and cosmetic outcomes.
Forming
- Minimum inside bend radius: typically ≥ 1.0 × material thickness for SUS304/316; 1.0–1.5T is commonly robust. Confirmed per grade/thickness.
- Allow for bend deduction/relief features near bends; slot relief helps avoid tearing on tabs.
- Consider grain direction for visible brushed finishes and bends parallel to rolling direction.
Cutting and Holes
- Recommended minimum hole diameter: ≥ material thickness for best accuracy and edge quality.
- Maintain hole-to-edge distance ≥ 1.5 × thickness (or provide countersinks/standoffs).
- For PEM hardware, follow manufacturer sheet thickness and hole tolerance requirements; call out stainless-compatible hardware.
Welding and Assembly
- TIG or laser welding preferred for visible seams; MIG/MAG for structural or non-cosmetic areas.
- Expect some HAZ and potential distortion—include weld symbols, intermittent patterns, flatness callouts.
- Post-weld: specify passivation or glass-bead/sandblasting when required (via qualified partners).
Cosmetics and Finishing
- Define finish type and direction (e.g., brushed #4 grain direction).
- Call out cosmetic zones and acceptance criteria (A/B/C zones, stand-off distance).
- Request passivation for maximum corrosion resistance; electropolishing for high brightness (partner processes).
Prototyping-to-Production Support
- MOQ: 1 piece for prototypes
- Prototypes: 3–12 working days (process-dependent)
- Small batches: 10–15 days
- Regular production: 15–25 days
- Continuity: Same equipment and process controls from NPI to repeat orders
We support direct export with approximately 55% of sales overseas since 2019. Main markets: United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, and Singapore.
