Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication for Industrial OEMs

Custom Automotive Heat Shields

Rapidsheetfab fabricates automotive heat shields for OEMs and Tier suppliers. We work from customer drawings to deliver parts that manage thermal exposure around exhaust systems, turbochargers, and battery enclosures.

Materials Selected for Heat Shield Applications

Grade selection balances continuous service temperature, corrosion exposure, and weight targets for each mounting location.

Stainless Steel

SUS304 and SUS316 handle continuous temperatures above 600 °C while resisting corrosion from road salts.

Aluminum

5052 and 6061 reduce weight on underbody shields where mass targets drive the design.

Coated Steel

SGCC provides a lower-cost option where surface protection is added after forming.

Thicknesses run from 0.8 mm to 3.0 mm depending on mounting points and vibration requirements.

In-House Cutting, Forming, Welding, and Assembly

Every operation from blank cutting through final assembly runs on the same site, keeping dimensional checks inside our control.

Cutting and Forming

  • Five fiber lasers cut blanks up to 2000 × 4000 mm with ±0.10 mm tolerance.
  • Seven CNC press brakes form complex contours and mounting flanges up to 230 T.
  • CNC punching adds ventilation slots or sensor cutouts without secondary operations.
  • Dimensional checks occur before parts leave the press brake.

Welding and Assembly

  • TIG and MIG welding join seams on multi-piece shields.
  • Spot welding secures brackets where access is limited.
  • M6–M10 PEM fasteners are inserted after welding to maintain thread integrity.
  • Final assemblies include riveted heat-resistant gaskets when specified on the drawing.

Verification
CMM and 2.5D vision systems

CMM and 2.5D vision systems verify critical mounting holes and overall envelope. First-article reports include material certificates and coating thickness data when required.

Prototype to Repeat Production Flow

The same fixtures and programs stay in place for ongoing orders, removing the need to requalify a new supplier.

  1. 1

    Single-Piece Prototype

Ships in 5–8 working days for fit, form, and thermal validation.

  2. 2

    Design Freeze

Once the design is frozen, the process moves to repeatable batch tooling.

  3. 3

    Batch Production

50–500 piece batches move to 12–18 day lead times.

  4. 4

    Ongoing Orders

Fixtures and programs remain in place for repeat production without requalification.

Surface Treatments Matched to Environment

Finishing is applied through qualified partners, and all finishing steps are documented with batch records.

Powder Coating & High-Temperature Paint

Applied through qualified partners for thermal and corrosion protection.

Electropolishing

Reduces heat retention on stainless surfaces.

Laser Marking

Places part numbers and revision levels directly on non-critical areas.

Engineering Support During RFQ Review

Drawings in STEP or SolidWorks format receive a DFM note within 24 hours. We flag potential distortion on large flat areas and suggest relief features before tooling.

This review covers weld access, hardware orientation, and packaging methods for export.

What to Include in Your RFQ

  • STEP or SolidWorks drawing files with revision level.
  • Material callouts and thickness requirements.
  • Annual volume and expected batch sizes.
  • Surface treatment and marking specifications.
